Coins and gems quests are pure talentslop in global event. It is unfair to skilled players without absurd levels of equipment and custom talents—for the richest players, gems reach close to 10–12x base—while most players, even with L5 perfect equipment, may only reach up to 3–5x.
In other events, and in daily/season quests, coins and gems (also including xp/at/ac) quests serve a 'passive' purpose: they have flexibility in what can be played to achieve them. Even though equipment affects them, there's no competition between other players, and most typically don't struggle with them. However, coin and gem quests don't serve this purpose in global event. Since players are competing for the top spots, the passiveness is stripped away, and the quests become active quests. Now, this presents the inherent problem that players don't have a level playing field (which they obviously should in global event, as all other quests do*). The inequality between players is even exacerbated by custom talents, most importantly game rewards talents such as Catalyst and Strategist.
Podiums for coin/gem quests look always the same, being filled with richest players with the ability to afford such talents. While most of these players are indeed very fast and skilled, and also appear on other podiums, I cannot imagine that some of these players could regularly place in the top spots in other categories.
Overall, the problem of coin/gem quests presents a contradictory approach to the global quest event: the rich have an unfair advantage from their equipment and talents, to which all other players must compete against—and who are even punished as their placement, and thus ep gain, are impacted.
*The price of arena tickets can also deter players from choosing to play specific arena quests, but players who are skilled enough to complete the arena typically have the funds to buy tickets.
